Israel-Lebanon Clash Turns Deadly

A border clash between Israeli and Lebanese armies claimed the lives of at least five people, including one reporter. It was the first deadly encounter since the 2006 war between Israeli and Lebanese Hezbollah forces.

In response to the clashes, BBC News reported that Hezbollah’s Chief, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said, “…if the army is attacked in any area where the resistance has a presence or a say, the resistance will not stand by idly.”

While each side blamed the other, “Israeli officials said their soldiers were ambushed by snipers, which they said suggested a planned attack,” The Los Angeles Times wrote.

In a United Nations statement, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged both sides to “exercise maximum restraint” until further details of the incident are revealed.
